Irrigation

A properly designed, installed, and maintained landscape irrigation system can bring many benefits to a homeowner:

  • Create and maintain a beautiful living environment in your yard, with lush grass and vibrant foliage.
  • Protect your investment in landscaping by ensuring each plant receives the right amount of water at the right times.
  • Save you significant time and effort - no more dragging a hose around your yard!
  • Increase your home resale value and curb appeal
  • Conserve water, through efficient timing, proper coverage, and by considering soil and foliage variations
  • Ensure your lawn and plants are properly watered - even while you are away!

Steps to a Successful Landscape Irrigation System

As part of your landscape irrigation system, we will provide the following:

  1. Proper system design.
  2. Permits.
  3. Miss Utility.
  4. Water main tie-in.
  5. Backflow prevention.
  6. Irrigation zones.
  7. Irrigation controller and rain sensor.
  8. Programming.
  9. Digging and Clean up.
  10. Irrigation system familiarization.
  11. 30-day adjustment.
  12. Warranty.

  1. Proper system design. A properly designed system will help ensure all your plant material (grass, flowers, etc) gets the proper amount of water at the right time, without dry spots, run-off, or over-watering. Our irrigation experts will consider the following when designing your system:
    • Lot configuration
    • Placement of sidewalks, driveways, decks, etc.
    • Location and type of various plant material
    • Water pressure
    • Your future plans
  2. Permits. We will secure all required permits for your irrigation system.
  3. Miss Utility. We will arrange for Miss Utility to mark utility lines on your property prior to any digging. We ask that you mark your property as well as any other buried items, such as invisible fences and septic systems.
  4. Water main tie-in. Our trained technicians will perform the tie-in to your main water line, either in your basement, at the water meter, or within a utility room. If the tie-in is done in your basement, we will use either CPVC or copper lines inside your home/facility, to help prevent water leaks.
  5. Backflow prevention. We will install a backflow prevention device near the tie-in, to prevent migration of water from the irrigation system into your potable water supply.
  6. Irrigation zones. An irrigation zone, or "hydrozone", is a portion of the landscape that has similar plants and/or water requirements. Each zone is irrigated by one or more valves and several heads. Our designer will establish these zones with plants that would logically be watered on a similar irrigation schedule. Examples would include areas of turf grass, a flower bed, shrubs, or a slope with ground cover.
  7. Irrigation controller and rain sensor. The controller, which will likely be installed in your garage or utility room, is programmed to activate each zone of your irrigation system on schedule. The rain sensor is used to prevent the system from irrigating during or shortly after rainfall, to conserve water.
  8. Programming. Our irrigation experts will program your controller to help ensure your plant materials get the right amount of water at the right times. A properly programmed system can also help minimize runoff and evaporation, to conserve water and save you money.
  9. Digging and Clean up. While some scarring and uneven ground is inevitable, we will make every reasonable effort to protect the appearance of your turf and plant beds. We use several techniques to minimize the impact of our digging. Once complete, we will remove all construction debris prior to our departure. We will also tamp down the sod over installed irrigation lines. Any rocks uncovered during installation will be removed as well.
  10. Irrigation system familiarization. One of our team members will go over your system with you, to point out sprinkler heads and describe system operation.
  11. 30-day adjustment. Within 30 days, you may request another sprinkler head adjustment, to fine-tune your system.
  12. Warranty. New irrigation system installations come with a 2-year warranty on parts and 1-year warranty on labor. Extended service contracts are available.
